When using heat protectant on damp or wet hair, it can reduce damages caused by hot tools. Heat protectants act like a barrier between your styling tools and the hair. Some of them can smooth the cuticle, making the hair softer and shinier.

When hot tools are used to style the hair, it evaporates the water molecules in the inner cortex, altering the internal structure of the strands. This allows to change the hair’s natural patterns : curls to straight or straight to curls. Also, hot tools can cause frizz and dry out the hair. Take note that high temperatures can form cracks and ruptures in the cuticle, making the hair even more vulnerable to future damage. That said, heat protectants act like a barrier between your styling tools and the hair.
